Icons of Beauty, 2005

This series of paintings began rather frivolously when I painted "two-lips" for an Ottawa Art Gallery Spring Art Show. It was then I realized just how frequently lips were used in advertising to symbolize ideals of beauty, sensuality, seduction and promises of a perfect life. It seemed to me the depiction of this image was similar to the attention and devotion given to images of sacred personages. Hence, the title "Icons of Beauty", as represented by women who live in the Ottawa community.

Exhibition: Galerie d'art Jean-Claude-Bergeron 2005

Jerry Grey is one of Ottawa's more innovative portrait artists. Her newest exhibition of oil paintings at Galerie d'art Jean Claude Bergeron in the Byward Market is no exception.

In Icons of Beauty, Grey has painted a series of Ottawa-area women. Actually, she has just painted their lips and managed to portray distinct personalities in each painting.
